For the last two years I have been blogging over on Posterous, although not as frequently as I would like. Before that I was on TypePad. Lately, however, I have been looking for something where if I want to post something longer, I can. And if I want to just share a quote, an inspiring image or a link with a pithy comment or two I also can. Tumblr seems like it was, to quote Gaga, ?born this way.? It?s suitable for both. It?s like it was invented for John Gruber, who has mastered the short/long balance. So today I am starting an experiment here.

Recently I had been taking a good look at SquareSpace. There?s much to like there. The same is true for WordPress. But there?s something about the simplicity of Tumblr and the community here. I particularly have been impressed with their growth and how the media is using the platform, which is central to my new role with Edelman – to think about the future of media consumption as it spans across traditional, tradigital, owned and social spheres.

Tumblr seems to have all the basics I need – Feedburner, Google Analytics, pages, markdown support and Disqus – plus a built in community. So today the grand experiment begins.

I feel what?s lacking today is a good conversation about how these four media spheres are converging in the eye of the beholder. Tumblr seems like the perfect mashup to explore this further, not just with essays but curated ?finds.?

Interested in your views.

Note to delineate longer form posts from shorter blurbs, I am tearing a page out of the John Gruber playbook and prefacing these with a glyph, in my case – the ¶ mark.
